Yesterday it snowed.  Yesterday my long time client forgot how to get to the studio (she also forgot a really special prop she had meant to bring). Yesterday we got started 30 minutes late. And then Nora did a lot of this. And when she wasn’t doing this she was eating.  And then she would do more of this and then eat again.

So, it was a really bad session right? No way, it was an awesome session because she has one of the coolest mommas ever.  The kind who doesn’t stress out when things aren’t going perfectly.  And I love her for that! I have  told you guys before, during a session, I never stress out.  I do all my stressing the night before when I am getting ready 🙂 On actual session day  I just think something has always got to give.  We have three hours.  No way in three hours will we not get a little bit of magic.

We joked that someone needed to Instagram us trying to pose her while she was being fed to trick her into sleeping in the prop I wanted her in.  That was real life.  That was being behind the scenes at a real session.  I don’t know any photographer that can’t relate to the session that goes on forever with out clicking a single shot.  And then you get like thirty minutes and you shoot like crazy.  And if you know some chick that  claims that has never happened, that in fact, they are the one true baby whisperer…she is lying.  Your photographer is LYING. Every session isn’t blissfully calm  because life isn’t and newborns for sure aren’t! They get mad and they get irritated.  Some think that they are starving all the time.  We actually marveled at how Nora had eaten like five times but nothing had come out.  Then she peed on my lap.  So, we knew that yes, in fact she was getting food.  She went on to prove it again in one of my baskets.

So did we get every pose that I am capable of capturing.  Nope, we didn’t.  Did we still get some beyond adorable shots…oh my goodness yes.  Even that first one, that I find somewhat comical, is pretty stinkin cute. Try to capture that same shot again in three more weeks.  Not gonna happen. So, would it have been better if it hadn’t snowed and Jamie hadn’t gotten lost and she would have packed everything she needed and Nora would have slept for three hours straight? Yes! Of course, I would be insane to claim otherwise.  But some days you accept what life hands you.  You can’t keep snow from falling. You can’t always shush away the cries.  You sometimes can’t convince the baby she is full.  But you can always work with what you’ve got. And if you ask me that very last image, all full of love, is pretty close to bliss.
