Newborn Photographer Kansas City | Starring Audrey
If you would have told me years ago that my sister’s elementary school friend would have a daughter and I would be the one taking her newborn photos I would never have believed you. I mean, come on, I am going to go to college and major in Journalism. I’m going to write for a newspaper (what’s a newspaper?). I’m not going to be taking pictures of babies. I have never even changed a diaper. And I hate babysitting. So yeah, completely ridiculous.
Well, I went to college. I didn’t major in Journalism. Mostly because I found out I would have to take a poetry course and write poems (and read them aloud!). And there was also no way I could avoid this one professor who taught British Lit. I was sure she got her hair cut at a barbershop and she seemed to hate all her students and her job (so inspiring). So I quickly switched to Communication Studies (no more newspaper writing). And I did graduate.
However, I never really used that degree and then I went on to have four babies in two and a half years (yeah, it’s actually possible to do that). I changed A LOT of diapers. And I wasn’t babysitting, I was actually living with this strange little creatures.
Then I bought a camera and that was that. New career, new life plan. Taking pictures of babies. And enjoying every minute of it.
Because of those detours I get to do amazing things. Like hold the baby of an old friend and capture her first photos. I never would have pictured me sitting holding Jenna’s daughter in between shots. Chatting about life, mom stuff, giving birth and so many other things that I couldn’t have imagined I would be interested in.
I am so grateful that I was guided in this direction and that I have the opportunity to stay connected with people I have known for so long. This job is one of my greatest blessings.
