Disney Princess | Kansas City Newborn Photographer
Oh my goodness, it has been such a long time since I have blogged. I am currently in the middle of Fall madness. Everyone is in a mad rush to be photographed with their family before the weather turns cold and the leaves fall off the trees. So far the weather has been mild and trees are still hanging on, but we live in the Midwest and that could all change in a minute. Personally, I am ready to move inside and hibernate for the winter. Come on into the studio with me! Bring on the newborns and baby sessions!
Recently Kati and I have added to our Princess shoots. It’s always fun to plan these special set ups with her. And because we usually use a model instead of a client we can really focus on getting that “one shot” that we need.
To begin with we choose a princess, in this case our newest additions are Ariel and Aurora, and then we decide which scenes we want to recreate. We consider what can we do on a small scale that will translate the idea/concept of the scene without losing the subject. The props can’t overpower the image, they need to be just right and pull focus to the baby. While brainstorming we consider what those props might be and how the baby can be safely posed within that set up. Lastly, we decide what Kati will knit for our little model to wear. It has to easily go on without waking the baby, be comfortable for her to wear and really play a role in communicating the story we want to tell. She does an amazing job at all those things. I don’t know a single thing about knitting so I leave it all up to her.
Once we have that nailed down we generally go into a ridiculous amount of “it’s gonna be so cuuuuuute!!!”
I really have to stress to clients, this is not what an average session looks like. I don’t, on a whim, dress your baby in head to toe princess. This is definitely something that is a specialty set up and a client would have to request. You can look at many other blog posts and see examples of my usual work. And while I love the more simple sets that I generally use, I have to admit that this is so much fun for me. I love the opportunity to do something different and am so thankful to the families who loan us their sweet little ladies for each shoot. We couldn’t do it without them!
