One of the first things anyone every learns about me is that I am a mom of twins.  So multiple babies born at once.  But then it gets weird.  I don’t just have one set.  There are two sets. Like multiple sets.  Like multiple multiples.  Ever since I became pregnant with the first set that has been the thing anyone says about me, to me, describing me.  “Have you met Anna, she is having twins!” or “This is Anna, she has twins” or later, “This is Anna, she has TWO sets of twins!” And then people do that cartoon double take and shake their heads and say, “Two sets of twins?” And I’m over here all, “Yeah, no biggie”.  I just grow two humans inside me, birth them and raise them into bigger humans.  That’s what I do people. And it’s super easy.

No, that’s a big fat lie.  It’s not easy at all, but that’s why I kind of love it.

I really struggled with the idea of staying home with my babies at first.  You know, stay home and not work (NOT work, bahahaha!) but having twins was just the thing I needed to feel useful, needed, in charge, like I was doing a job.  A really hard one that took all my energy, organization skills, effort. I had the schedule mastered eventually.  I knew what was up. My husband knew what was up.  We  could teach a course on raising twins and not losing your mind.

I was good at this job.

But then the joke was kind of on me when we decided to have just one more (because that would be a cake walk).  I would probably strap that ONE baby to my chest and do some downhill skiing or learn how to skateboard and after that I would make dinner.  And a pie.  I was going to bake a pie every night people.  I was gonna rock having this one baby.  And my toddlers would walk around and recite their letters and numbers and help me clean the house.

So that didn’t happen.  I had two more babies and my house was this huge mess.  I wore a messy bun, not yet dry from the shower and active wear.  Only active wear. I wasn’t all that active in it either.  And I never made a pie! Not one single pie that whole first year of having four kids.  My toddlers did, however, know their letters and numbers but didn’t clean my house.  They still don’t and they are way bigger now.

I now love that I am a twin mom.  Only twins.  None of that singleton stuff (twin moms say annoying things like singleton).  It is by far the greatest work I have ever done.  And I can’t speak for my husband, but I would say it is probably the greatest work either of us will ever do.  I can’t imagine only having one baby fighting for room inside my belly.  Or only one of us having to get up at night to do feedings.  Some of the best nights of my life spent sitting upright on the couch with a baby on my chest trying to get one more burp out with my husband sitting across the room doing exactly the same thing.  Keeping the lights down and the tv off so we don’t wake the two sleeping in cribs down the hall.

Now that mine aren’t so little any more I just love having the opportunity to photograph twins.  Bristol and Henley were no exception.  They were beyond perfect.  They were beautiful, but that is obvious.  And they were the sleepiest little girls with the most perfect skin.

Thanks so much for allowing me the opportunity to photograph them Ryan and Kelly.  I couldn’t be happier that you chose me.

Leave these sweet sisters some love in the comments!
