Cake Smash Photography KC | Little Birdie Wren turns 1

Cake Smash Photography KC | Little Birdie Wren turns 1

When Wren’s momma let me know that her cake smash session theme was going to be birdie themed I wasn’t at all surprised.  We have carried the birdie theme out over the year, starting with her newborn session.  Bea at Sweet Pea Hats made me a bird’s nest tie back just for Wren and we have used it three times.  So it just seemed right to celebrate her first birthday this way too. I am sorry to say that I did not have the requested tepee (note to self: buy tepee) but I am really happy with how it turned out.  Girly and organic, a little rustic. Different than my usual look.  And different is fun.

Cake smashes are quickly becoming one of my most requested types of sessions and I really feel like I have them figured out.  I always have parents send me the baby’s outfit and birthday theme (invite and colors).  Sometimes they provide the cake and sometimes I do, but it is always a perfect match.  I know how many balloons I want and where to get those huge tissue poms.  No, I don’t make them myself.  Don’t judge. I make a lot of my props but some things I just can’t be bothered with…tissue poms are one of those things. So, no you will never find a tutorial on my blog on how to make them. I think it involves paper, string, and scissors.  I am really helpful and obviously a genius.

The setup is definitely a big part of making this whole thing work.  I like the space to be filled with all the pretty stuff that pulls the setup together. Not a lot of empty space in my smash shots.  I know some people like a simpler look.  I am not one of them.  I am definitely a “more is more” type of person.  If you are wanting something all white with a single balloon making some sort of minimalist artistic statement then don’t hire me. I am all about color and fun and being just on the verge of being over the top.

So if you aren’t a “single balloon” type of person either we should probably chat.  Shoot me an email.  Let’s celebrate your baby’s big day together.

Thanks for visiting my site.  I would love to be your photographer!
