Your cake smash session is designed to be organized, calm, and fully guided from start to finish.  When you arrive at the studio, your custom designed set is completely prepared so you can settle in and enjoy the experience.  Lighting, backdrop, props and cake placement are arranged in advance to create a cohesive and polished look.

The Classic Cake Smash session begins with a few traditional portraits before the cake is introduced.  You may bring favorite outfits from baby’s closet for these images.  Shooting these prior to the cake smash allows me to capture sweet expressions and milestone details while your baby gets used to the studio space, lighting, as well as an opportunity to get used to me being in the space as well.  I make sure to not be intrusive in baby’s space or touch/pose baby during this session to maintain baby’s trust.

Once the cake is placed, the smash portion unfolds naturally.  We will guide and redirect as necessary, but baby is in charge of this part of the session.  Some babies jump right in, while others take their time-both reactions are perfectly normal and very much often reflect baby’s personality.

After the smash, many sessions conclude with a bubble bath splash.  This provides an easy clean up and creates the opportunity for more playful and light hearted images.   We will never force your baby into the tub.  It is completely up to baby’s comfort level.

Parents remain close throughout the session, and clear direction is provided at each step.  The goal is a smooth, enjoyable milestone experience that results in a cohesive gallery of beautifully finished images.
