Kansas City Newborn Pictures | Hayla’s First Photo Shoot

Taking Hayla’s Kansas City newborn pictures was one of the easiest and most challenging sessions I have shot this year. How is that possible, right?

It was the easiest because her parents are some of the sweetest people I have had the pleasure of meeting. I have been doing this job for ll years and meet so many wonderful people. Allie and Ryan were so friendly and easy going. They were easy to talk to and set expectations with. They were also easy to photograph, such a cute trio. And Ryan didn’t complain about how warm the studio was and that is dad complaint number one! I was immediately so happy to have them as part of our client family.

Now on to the challenging part. Hayla is a beauty with these perfect little lips and chubby cheeks. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on her.  Turns out Hayla was not as excited to be my model as I was to be her photographer! She was particular about her posing and moving her took much patience and perseverance .  And that was completely fine with me. I have been doing this job for 11 years and I know every baby is different.  Every baby has things they like and things they don’t.  It’s my job to recognize their comfort level and adapt my work flow to accommodate their needs. I can almost always find a way to get the pose I want while keeping baby snoozing comfortably.  Well, except for the parent favorite, the froggy pose. I couldn’t get it this time.

No matter what I tried with Hayla I just couldn’t get that image for her momma.  I tried all my tricks, multiple times and I got to the point where I knew it just was never going to happen.  And times like that it is best to move on and capture the poses that were going to happen.  I felt a little defeated because there have only been a handful of times I have been unable to get that pose.  But her session wasn’t about me so this time we moved on.

As you can see, I did have a little trouble keeping her asleep.  I actually like baby to wake up at least once during a sessions so I can capture a few awake shots for their gallery.  But overall I prefer a sleepyhead, just for practical purposes. Hayla wasn’t on board for snoozing the day away so we just went for it.  And I have to say I love her awake shots just as much as her sleeping ones.  Her eye contact was on point. What a doll.

Thanks for choosing our studio Allie and Ryan.  I am so happy I had the opportunity to meet you and capture Hayla’s first photos.  They are some of my favorites of this year!
