Newborn Pictures Kansas City | Studio Hygiene and Safety

Newborn Pictures Kansas City | Studio Hygiene and Safety

As I write this, I am heading into the second month of not being allowed to work due to the Coronavirus in Kansas City.  I am abiding by the restrictions set in place by Jackson County where I operate as a “non-essential” business.

This hiatus from work has allowed me a lot of time to catch up on editing, proofreading forms, and contracts, and updating my website.  I have stayed busy enough.  Well, as busy as you can stay without photographing clients.  It has certainly been a trying time as a small business owner and parent of four school-age kids missing out on activities.  I am sure many of you are in the same boat as my family, or a different boat, the same storm.  It has been a trying time for so many of us.  I don’t know each of you by name but everyone is certainly in my prayers.  I am hopeful that our city can recover from this disaster soon.

As I think about moving forward I consider how to keep myself and my clients as safe as possible during this new normal. I wanted to address studio hygiene and safety in relation to Newborn Pictures in Kansas City.

Newborn Pictures Kansas City | Studio Hygiene and Safety

We have always taken pride in keeping a tidy studio (yes the prop room is sometimes a disaster, I must admit).  And we make great efforts to sanitize props and my hands throughout each session.  Just the usual things someone might do when working with the public.  However, times are different now and I am forced to take into account extra measures that may be necessary to continue to capture memories of my tiniest clients in a studio setting.

I will, of course, keep all original measures in place, but also plan to implement the following in an effort to create the safest space possible.

Newborn Pictures Kansas City | Studio Hygiene and Safety

  • No one with a fever will be allowed in the studio.  Now, that has always been a rule but I plan to check in with clients the night before a session for current health status.
  • Only parents will be allowed in the studio for the duration of the session.  There will be no exceptions to this rule.  That will include grandparents, nannies and older siblings.  Less people means less exposure and less spread of germs throughout the studio.  I intend to clean diligently, but I am only human.  This should help me to maintain the cleanliness standard I hope to achieve.
  • Siblings will only be allowed in the studio during their portion during a newborn session. I normally welcome siblings to stay, eat snacks and watch some Netflix.  However, again in attempts to limit exposure, we will have to ask that siblings be taken home as soon as their portion is complete.
  • I will be asking that all shoes be removed (including my own) before entering the studio space.
  • I plan to wear a mask during sessions and encourage clients to wear one as well, however, that will not be required.
  • We will only schedule one session per day in our attempt to increase efforts to keep the studio clean and sanitized.
  • I ask that if you have knowingly come in contact with a sick person within two weeks of your session you reschedule for the safety of other clients. There will be no rescheduling fee due to illness of you or any of your contacts.

This list may change as time moves on and health officials make changes and amendments to current recommendations.  I plan to keep this post updated as much as possible.

I will still be here ready to welcome you into our AMP family, things will just look a little different.  We will find a new normal once we can be together again.  I truly can’t wait to see your little ones and begin capturing all those precious milestones again.

Stay well Kansas City.
