A newborn photography session is one of the most meaningful ways to preserve those first tiny details-from delicate eyelashes to sleepy yawns. As a newborn photographer in Kansas City for over 16 years, I specialize in creating soft, timeless portraits in my Blue Springs studio, and I want you to feel completely confident going into your baby’s first session. Here’s exactly what to expect.
📆 When to book your newborn session
Most families book their newborn session in the second trimester. I recommend reaching out early so we can plan and make sure we have room on the calendar shortly after the baby arrives. Sessions are usually scheduled in the first 2-3 weeks of life, when babies are extra sleepy and flexible for those cozy, curled-up poses.
🎀What to bring (or not bring)
Good news- I provide everything you will need! My studio is fully stocked with wraps, bonnets, headbands, and backdrops in every color you can imagine. I also have a full wardrobe of tiny newborn outfits in timeless designs that photograph beautifully.
You’re welcome to bring in sentimental items (like a name sign, heirloom blanket, or favorite stuffed animal), but there’s no need to bring anything extra unless you would like to.
🕰️How long does a newborn session take?
Most sessions last about 90 minutes to three hours. It varies because I move at the baby’s pace with plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, and soothing breaks when necessary. My approach is calm and baby-led, never rush. Some babies settle quickly, others need more time, and that’s completely normal.
📸When will you get your photos?
You will have the opportunity to view your gallery, in person with me, back at the studio within 7-10 days of shooting. I will be with you every step of the way to help you choose exactly the right images for your chosen collection. You will view them unedited, but the final images will be professionally edited in my signature, dreamy, natural style. You can order wall art and albums through me (some collections come with product), and you will also receive your images via digital download in full resolution.
