Where the Wild Things Are | Newborn Photography KC

I was pretty excited when my friend from high school contacted me to let me know that she was having her first baby and she wanted me to capture his first photos! It truly is the most fun when I get to work with someone I know from my life outside of my business. There is always such a relaxed and fun atmosphere and it makes work feel like play.

To make things even more exciting for me was to find out that Connor’s nursery was Where the Wild Things are themed. And anyone who follows my work knows I love a strong theme. I love bringing some of that fun into the session and really personalizing it for my clients. Nikki gave me plenty of notice what she would like me to do which was great because I had so much time to plan. I immediately got with my girl, Kati, from Shoot Babe and we started working on that he would wear and I decided that I wanted three set ups.

We decided on the full Max pajama set. As close as we could come to matching his outfit in the book…the bonnet even has whiskers (so cute!). She even indulged me when I told her I wanted Wild Things hands for our little Max to pose in (Connor’s dad was a great sport wearing these for me). They are just as crazy as I imagined them!

Connor arrived a bit earlier than planned and spent quite some time in the NICU before I had the chance to meet him. We shot his session at about 6-7 weeks, which is normally out of my range for a posed session. However, he had not even reached his due date when we shot and weighed in at right around 6 lbs so everything fit and he slept like an angel for me.

Thank you so much for choosing me Nikki! It was so much fun for me to plan this special shoot for your little man. And I am so happy to see you as a mommy. It will truly be your greatest adventure!
