Baby Milestone Session | Kansas City Photographer
Vivian had not been photographed since her newborn session so I know her momma was excited to capture her chubby cuteness at her seven month baby milestone session. She had such a sweet disposition and beautiful blue eyes (seems I am getting a lot of those in the studio these days). None of my own kiddos have blue eyes strictly team hazel and team brown in my household. But all of my babies were chubby and squishy just like Vivian. Special place in my heart for babies with roly thighs.
I have photographed her cousin Bernie several times and it was Vivian’s aunt that sent this little sugar to see me. I love a referral. First of all it tells me that my client likes the work I have done for them and they want to share the love a little bit. And secondly, I have really great people for clients. So generally really great people are related to or are friends with equally great people.
I use my social media to promote my business. I tweet. I share images on Instagram ( #ihearthastags) I blog to increase my SEO ranking on Google. I do the things you need to do to be noticed in an over saturated market. All the technical business type things you need to do. I do those things. But most importantly, I do what I can to build relationships with my clients. I want them to tell their friends about me (only good things, only good things!). I want them to share my work and feel like their money was well spent. I want them to be happy.
Word of mouth is everything to my little business. And yes, sometimes it feels really little. Like when I am staying up until 3:00 am to catch up on edits and it’s just me and four cups of coffee making the machine run. And I am the one responding to all the emails and packaging orders and going to the post office. And organizing the prop room. And ordering supplies. And blogging, posting to Facebook, Instagram and any other place I can think of. It’s just me (and my assistant helping me when she can). And it blows my mind sometimes that I am actually the person that people are talking about when they say “the small business owner”. I wonder how in the world am I doing this? How did my little business get so big?
It got so big because of all the little referrals. All the amazing clients introducing me to new clients. All the photo and blog shares. Every tag on Facebook. Every time someone handed my business card to an expecting friend. It’s everything everyone has done for me and I am so grateful.
If it hadn’t been for one referral I wouldn’t have met Vivian. I wouldn’t have booked this session. I don’t take anything for granted. I try to treat every job and client as the most important thing I am going to do that day.
I hope that is how I make my clients feel. And I hope that for as long as my doors are open people will always #bringmetheirbabies.
