KC Baby Session | James 4 Month Photos
I was so excited to be able to capture James’ first photos for his parents. He is the first boy in the family (he has two beautiful older sisters) and you can tell the entire family is over the moon in love with this guy. Not hard to see why though. He came in smiling and happily went through several outfit changes. He did get a little sleepy on me at the end. Which is perfectly fine and happens now and then at the 4 month session. It’s such a hard age to photograph, mostly for me because I am not sure how long I have before my little client will tire and need a rest or a milk break. It’s a lot of stimulation and movement and it’s easy to forget that. Especially when you want to capture a whole gallery of smiles for baby’s momma.
Luckily, when James was just about done his parents were both such great sports and hopped in some photos for me. They hadn’t come with the intention of being photographed and had it been me in their place I might have flat out refused. So they are way cooler than me, that’s for sure. And it just so happens that I love the images of James with Mom and Dad the most out of all of them.
Once we had switched direction on the session from my usual workflow to “we are making this happen” I decided to have his sisters pose with him as well. He hadn’t been super happy on his back, but snuggled between these pretty girls. And with Daddy right next to me making him laugh he did amazing!
I always say you can’t have everything go your way in every session. Every baby is different and you need to be ready to roll with that. Five years ago I didn’t have that same attitude. I probably would have gotten so frustrated and rescheduled (which everyone hates doing) without trying something different. Or working around a little sleepiness. I can’t do anything about screaming (that is still a reschedule!) but it makes me happy to know that I can be flexible. I can give up my “ideal” session plan and do what works for each individual client. And when you can think like that you usually have a pretty great session.
