Kansas City Cake Smash Photographer | Owen Color Crew

Owen is one of my Baby Love clients, which means I have had the opportunity to capture his milestone markers during his first year.

It has been a joy to watch him grow and see his sweet smile over the last year. He is always a happy boy with a gallery full of adorable shots. It is definitely a challenge for me to sort his images down to a manageable amount for the gallery because I want to keep them all! Luckily his parents have the hard job of choosing final favorites, so I don’t have to deal with that part lol!

When Amanda emailed me to tell me we were doing a Color Crew smash theme, that sent me straight to Google. My kids are older and I am not super familiar with things that are cool with the toddler crowd. However, as soon as I clicked on the link I recognized the songs from many sessions of parents holding a phone over my head and playing clips to get the baby’s attention. So apparently the Color Crew and the Hotdog Song were the biggest hits of 2017. I haven’t done an official poll with all my babies so don’t quote that as fact.

Owen was totally down, as usual, for the cake and gave me the best smiles and expressions. Makes my job super easy when it’s this much fun. It may not look like it, but generally, we are shooting about 5 minutes max on a smash. If a baby isn’t literally smashing it to pieces and playing in the mess then they are pretty much over it at that point. I just shoot like crazy and work hard to keep them engaged to get as a wide variety of expressions as possible. Owen’s dad will tell you, do not wear a black shirt because if you are designated baby wrangler you are going to be covered in icing by the end of the shoot!

I am going to miss seeing Owen and chatting with his parents every few months. I love the Baby Love plan because it really allows you an opportunity to build a relationship with your client. Thank you so much for choosing me for the amazing job of documenting Owen’s first year in the world. I love your little family and hope to see you all again in the future!
